Do you set personal goals for yourself?
I’ve come to realise that having goals is one thing and actually working towards them is another.
For the longest time, I kept telling myself I wanted to take writing seriously, it wasn’t a new hobby or interest as I’d actually been down this road before. I started a blog years ago, pit a lot of heart into it and eventually watched that chapter close. Starting over meant putting myself back out there and accepting that things might not work out as I hoped, that I might struggle to find my audience, and even worse, fail.
But at some point, I had to ask myself, what if I never tried again?
That question birthed Motiv8You. I am finally writing my stories, sharing my thoughts, and doing something that genuinely makes me happy. Is everything perfect? Absolutely not. Do I have everything figured out? Far from it. But I’m finally doing something about the things I want and that counts for a lot.
I think that’s what personal goals should be about. Not putting yourself under unnecessary pressure to have your life figured out by a certain age, or comparing your progress with someone else’s. It’s just about being honest with yourself about what you want and taking steps, however small, towards it.
Some goals take longer than expected, plans change and you might even realize that something you used to want doesn’t matter to you anymore and that’s completely okay. Give yourself room to grow, adjust when you need to and celebrate your progress, even when it doesn’t look impressive to anyone else.
Don’t spend so much time planning the life you want that you forget to actually live it. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you start; sometimes, you just need to take that first step and learn along the way.
