“In the beginning…”

Before the light,
there was darkness.

Black—quiet, deep,
holding everything yet to become.

And God said,
“Let there be light.”

Yet before a child sees the light,
it begins in darkness—
curled beneath its mother’s heart,
growing, becoming,
oblivious to what the future holds,
yet anticipating its first breath.

The womb is dark,
but no one calls it empty.

Because in that darkness,
life is being created.

Black is the soil
where the seed begins.

For before the seed sprouts into a plant,
before it reaches for the light,
it knows only darkness—
buried beneath the earth,
quietly becoming.

Even as a colour,
Black stands apart—
bold, fierce,
and somehow,
it complements everything.

Black is depth,
beauty,
history,
and life.

And in our skin,
we carry that same richness—
a beauty that does not need light
to prove that it shines.

Beauty lives in Black.
It always has.
It always will.
