If I ask if you are born again, I’m pretty sure the answer will be “yes”. If I also ask if you are a Christian, the answer will be a definite “yes”. But do you really know what it means to be a Christian?

Christianity is not a title or a name given to a group of people who go to church or when in trouble call “JESUS!!!” but it is a lifestyle. In Acts, the apostles in Antioch were called Christians because their life aligned with that of Christ, their lives were in conformity with the life Christ lived while he was yet on earth.

Many of us Christians do the exact opposite things that God (who we claim to be our father) did in the past, does or would do. You see someone in trouble and you just abandon the person and go the other way. You have the capacity to defend someone who is not guilty of an offence or allegation but you do nothing. Have you paused and asked yourself if Jesus would see someone in need of help and won’t render it.

We need to examine our lives once again. People kill without thinking, steal without caution or remorse, lie without care, you see a beggar who really needs your help but you close your eye to that person. This is not fair. We think when we do these things we are hurting those people but I will tell you the truth and that is you are hurting yourself more.
Being a Christian comes with benefits and one of it is being a free-born. You can’t be a slave if you are a true Christian. Have you ever seen a son of a king being given a meal for dogs? It is not possible. So it is in the Christendom, you can’t be a child of God and be a slave; being a slave to fear, depression and anger, to mention but a few. C’mon, God himself said he has given us dominion, power, authority over these things.

There is this song I hear people sing and it goes thus “…jump and pass” or when there is something bad happening they say jump pass. My dearest candidly ask yourself this question “if truly I am a child of god and he has said he has given me power to trample upon serpents and scorpions and they won’t hurt me, why then am I jumping and passing them?” That is by the way though, being a Christian comes with a whole lot of other benefits which I will be discussing in due course, till then confess that you are no longer a slave to fear, depression, unhappiness, failure or whatever it is that is holding you down but remind yourself that you are a child of God and before you do anything in any situation you find yourself ask yourself this question “What Would Jesus Do?” (WWJD).
