Dreams: A desired goal or purpose.

”I want to be a doctor when I grow up…”, “I want to be a lawyer in future…”and so on. These are dreams many of us can relate to very well; we probably aspired or wanted to be these things but how many of us finally achieved them? Some of us didn’t become our childhood aspirations or rather achieve our childhood dreams not because we grew to hate them but because while growing up, we began realizing a lot of things I’ll be pointing out in this article.

Dreams play a very vital role in our lives. We need to dream so we can have an ambition or goal to pursue and attain. You see! Many of us suffered and are still suffering from the “too many dreams syndrome” and that is probably why we take one step forward and a million steps backward. We are the “jack of all trades yet master of none” set of persons.

Don’t get me wrong, you can have a long list of dreams you want to achieve but first, ask yourself if you possess the talent to execute these dreams. Let’s take for example a person who decides to be a writer not because he has what it takes (talent) but because he probably admires some Iconic writers, this individual will end up making terrible mistakes. Also, a person who has a dream of being a business tycoon with so many businesses fused together must first be sure he possesses the talent needed to run each of the businesses he has in mind and most importantly prioritize his list, i.e. start with one first, so it doesn’t fail. At least, Rome was never built in one day, so he would have to take it one step at a time, so he doesn’t make mistakes.

I had a blog (way before now) and I thought I could combine it with school work, I even wanted to go for one of these singing competitions but I couldn’t complete all of these at the same time not because I suddenly lost my writing skills or voice but because I didn’t prioritize my list and so to avoid confusion, I had to accomplish the important one first which was getting a degree and later do the rest (one of which I have already started, which is the blog) so I wouldn’t have too many abandoned projects on my hands. The truth is, even many of our successful stars who are into a lot of things started from somewhere and even drafted a scale of preference for their dreams to become a success story. Many of us have too many dreams but not enough scheme (systematic plan of future actions) and this can only lead to massive confusions.

Lest I say too much (my hand don dey pain me sef), the conclusion of this whole gist is that we should; no matter our long list, learn to prioritize our dreams and aspirations and take it one step at a time and most importantly never forget that “if you can dream it, you can most definitely achieve it’.
