Sometimes, the problem isn’t that we don’t have anything good happening in our lives.
Sometimes, it’s where we are looking.
We spend so much time focusing on what could go wrong that we forget to consider what could go right, thereby missing out on the possibilities around us.

The questions can go on and on.
And if I’m being honest, I’ve asked myself these questions too.
Fear has a way of filling our minds with so much negativity that we become blind to the positivity around us. Sometimes, we don’t even realise that we’ve allowed our minds to get stuck there.
Recently, I’ve been learning that sometimes, I simply need to shift my focus.
Not because the problem has disappeared.
Not because everything is suddenly perfect.
But because constantly focusing on what could go wrong stirs up so much negativity and self-doubt that we forget there are also so many positive outcomes and possibilities around us.
Same Situation. Different Focus.

What Are You Repeatedly Focusing On?
There is a quote I came across that says:

If we repeatedly focus on negativity, it can become our default lens. And when we repeatedly choose to focus on positivity and possibilities, we become more intentional about noticing them too.
What we repeatedly focus on can eventually shape how we see the world.
So, where are you placing your attention?

Let Me Use Myself as a Case Study
When I decided to start writing again, I could have focused on the fact that I’ve tried this before and it didn’t work out as I had hoped.
I could have focused on the possibility that people might not read what I write.
I could have compared myself with people who have been doing this for years and convinced myself that I’m already behind.
Even worse, I could have focused on everything that could go wrong.
Or…
I could shift my focus.
I could focus on the fact that I’m writing again.
That I’m creating again.
That I’m giving this part of myself another chance.
I could focus on the possibility that someone might stumble across my words on a difficult day and feel understood.
I could focus on all the amazing things I might learn along the way.
Most importantly, I could focus on the fact that I finally stopped wondering, “What if?” and decided to find out.
I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?
There Will Always Be Something to Worry About.
Whether we choose to move forward or not, there will always be something to worry about.
Another reason to wait.
Another reason to doubt yourself.
Another reason to compare yourself with someone else.
Another reason to say, “Maybe later.”
But there will also always be something worth noticing.
The progress you’ve made.
The lessons you’ve learned.
The opportunities in front of you.
The people who love you.
The things you’re capable of.
And, most importantly, the things you’ve survived.
Sometimes, that shift is all we need to take the next step.
Because believe it or not, there will always be something to worry about.
But there will also always be something to hope for.
Shift Your Focus
Shifting your focus doesn’t mean pretending that difficult things don’t exist.
It doesn’t mean ignoring your problems or forcing yourself to be positive when you’re genuinely struggling.
It simply means refusing to let the difficult things become the only thing you see.
Sometimes, you don’t need a completely new plan.
Maybe you need a new perspective.
Maybe you need to look at the same situation from a different angle.
Maybe you need to stop asking only, “What could go wrong?” and start asking, “What could go right?”
Focus on progress instead of perfection.
Focus on possibility instead of fear.
Focus on what you can control instead of what you can’t.
Focus on your journey instead of someone else’s.
Focus on what you have instead of everything you think you’re missing.
Because the outcome isn’t always within our control.
But where we place our attention?
Sometimes, that is.
So, if you’ve been feeling stuck lately, maybe you don’t need to completely change your plan.
Maybe you simply need to…
