What’s the most underrated life skill?

Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is not holding on.

It is letting go.

We hold on to people because of the memories.

We hold on to relationships because of the time we have invested.

We hold on to dreams because we have already spent so much energy chasing them.

And sometimes, we hold on simply because we are scared.

Scared that letting go means we failed.

Scared that walking away means we gave up.

Scared that if we release what we have, nothing better will come along.

But what if letting go isn’t always giving up?

What if sometimes, letting go is choosing yourself?

Not everything is meant to stay

I’ve learnt that not everything we love is meant to stay.

And honestly, that’s a painful lesson.

Sometimes, we keep trying to fix things because we remember how good they used to be. We keep giving chances because we believe things can go back to the way they were.

But sometimes, we are not holding on to what something is.

We are holding on to what we wish it could be.

Maybe it’s a friendship that has become one-sided.

A relationship that constantly leaves you drained.

A dream that no longer fits the person you are becoming.

And because you have invested so much, walking away feels like admitting it was all a waste.

It wasn’t.

Letting Go Doesn’t Mean It Didn’t Matter

A chapter can be beautiful and still come to an end.

A person could have been important to you and still no longer belong in your life.

A dream could have mattered deeply to you and still needs to be released.

Sometimes, letting go is you saying:

“This was important to me, but it isn’t where I’m meant to stay.”

And there is freedom in that.

Choosing Peace Over Familiarity

The familiar can be comfortable, even when it isn’t good for us.

We can become so used to disappointment that we mistake it for normal.

So used to overthinking that peace feels strange.

So used to fighting for someone’s attention that being valued feels unfamiliar.

But you deserve more than something that is simply familiar.

You deserve something that is healthy.

So maybe it’s time to ask yourself:

“Am I holding on because this is still right for me or because I’m afraid of what happens when I let go?”

You don’t need to have all the answers today.

But when the time comes, let go.

Not because it didn’t matter.

But because you matter too.
